I always said that I wouldn’t be the mom throwing lavish parties for my kids. And I continue to think that they are not necessary, but I threw Blake a simple 3rd birthday that pleased both him and Dylan, and my budget.
What you need
- Space themed cake – my only splurge. See the photo for how amazing it came out!
- Bouncy balls from rite-aid as party (I got them 75% off)
- Anything can be an alien, space ship, or meteor! Just find what’s on sale at stores near you.
- Print out rocket ships (Costco!)
- I just used general clipart images and had them blown up on corrugated board to use as posters and photo props.

- Hand made rocket packs – details below

- ^^ My only edit would be when making the straps poke a hole in the cardboard and thread the ribbon through before stapling it on. We had lots of difficulties with Jet Pack malfunctions till we tried this trick.
- Lunch of choice – deep pit sandwiches were effortless to cook the night before and easy to feed a large crowd
- Our neighbor has a deep pit and was doing his yearly Neighborhood Turkey Deep Pit get together for Thanksgiving. Not only did we deep pit our turkey, we threw in two beef rounds and had enough meat to serve all the adults and have left overs for ourselves.
