5 Best Laundry Sheets to Avoid Toxic Ingredients

Most laundry detergent contains chemicals I’m trying to avoid.

This includes 1,4 dioxane (the EPA says this likely causes cancer), ethoxylated alcohols, synthetic dyes, optical brighteners, SLS/SLES, parabens, phosphates, sulfates & more.  Your laundry detergent gets absorbed into your body through your skin (your largest organ) so it’s important to know what’s in your laundry detergent.

I used several different laundry detergent sheets at home. These are my 5 favorites.

#2 Grove Laundry Sheets

Grove Laundry Sheets earned our #2 spot. They clean well like our #1 Winner, and they are also free of most toxic chemicals. We mostly have good things to say about these laundry sheets, but they do contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), which can irritate sensitive skin. It is unfortunate that while Grove Co. itself is based in the USA, their laundry sheets are made in China.

Overall, I am loving using laundry sheets, it’s so much better than heavy plastic jugs.

#3 Seventh Generation

Seventh Generation Laundry Sheets clean well, just like the #1 and #2 laundry detergent sheets. . Sheets are so easy to use and no mess.  Reviews on amazon state that it doesn’t dissolve well in front loading machines but it was okay in my top loading machine!

#4 Sheets Laundry Club 

Sheets Laundry Club is a popular laundry sheet. But I don’t get why! It’s made in China. It didn’t perform well on our cleaning tests. And I didn’t like the fragrance. So it earned our#4 spot.

#5 Clearalif Laundry Sheets

Clearalif Laundry Sheets were okay. Some loads cleaned well, but other larger loads didn’t seem to get as clean as I would like. But it has ingredients that I don’t like. Specifically K12 (sodium dodecyl sulfate), which acts like SLS and is a skin irritant, dries out your skin and hair, enters the body through the skin and can build up in your organs. Oh, and the other ingredients makes me believe these sheets contain 1,4-Dioxane, a carcinogen which doesn’t have to be listed on the label. Lastly it also uses glycerin which comes from animals and is therefore not vegan and not cruelty free.

Final Verdict

Clean People laundry sheets were my favorite by far because they have the highest ingredient integrity, I don’t have to compromise on cleaning power, and it is made in USA where I know there are stringent manufacturing guidelines and rules!
